Fergus Truck Show 2008

Linamar Transportation has been a proud participant and supporter of the Fergus Truck Show for many years. July 2008 gave us the opportunity to showcase our equipment and products in a crowd pleasing booth equipped with a comfort station and kids play area.

Dragon Wagon

Linamar drivers Brent Desormo, Rob Tebow and Jeff Nealy participated in the year end BBQ for the “Dragon Wagon Trucker Pen-Pal Program”. At the start of the school year, drivers from many local carriers were paired with students in the grade 6 class from Hillcrest Public School in Kitchener. Students received a plush dragon puppet in which they named and entrusted to their trucker buddy partner who took the dragon on their trucking travels throughout North America. Over the course of the school year trucker buddies sent letters and post cards to the kids describing their adventure, where they’ve travelled and what they’ve seen. This is a unique program designed to compliment the curriculum for geography, english and math and to build writing skills. On June 20th the quiet Kitchener neighbourhood rumbled with a dozen bob-tail trucks that swooped in to pick-up the young people and chauffeur them to the annual year-end BBQ in nearby Aberfoyle. The CB airwaves were humming as the young passengers got to chatter back and forth in true trucker style. Once at their destination dragons where returned to their owners and small souvenirs and mementos were exchanged between pen-pals. The truckers were treated to heartfelt presentations by the students, a BBQ lunch and races and games. Brent Desormo has participated in this program for a number of years; his ongoing commitment has truly made a difference in the young people’s lives. Rob and Jeff volunteered when most needed and helped make this program a success. Thank you! 2008 was the program’s 11th and final year.

Ontario Truck Driving Championship 2008

The Ontario Truck Driving Championship (Provincial) was held in North Bay Ontario on July 11 - 13, 2008. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers from the Central Ontario Regional Truck Driving Championship were eligible to complete at the Provincial level. Guy Maltby, who was a third place finisher in the tandem-tandem class at Regional level, competed and was awarded 2008 Rookie of the Year. The entire Linamar team Congratulates Guy for this fantastic achievement!

Family Fun Day 2008

In late October each year, Linamar Transportation holds a Family Fun Day to show appreciation for all Linamar truck drivers and their families. Past years fun activities included truck tours for children who got to climb into the driver’s seat and try the air horn; Happy Space Clowns; colourful face painting; pumpkin carving; and a costume parade. There was also a bake sale and pizza for everyone who attended as well as “blind spot” demos and “safety awareness around big trucks” sessions. All proceeds from the super day went to the United Way of Guelph and Wellington.
